NBC, which already has This Is Us, The Good Place and Will & Grace renewed for 2018-19, kicked off its pilot season Tuesday with its first order.

Ordered to pilot is the drama The Village. From writer and executive producer Mike Daniels (Sons of Anarchy), the project explores the residents of a Manhattan apartment building who, despite a difference in age, race, culture and lifestyle, find that the more their lives intertwine, the more complex and compelling their connections become, thus proving life’s challenges are better faced alongside family, even if it’s the one you make wherever you find it. All under one roof are a recovering war vet, a pregnant teenage girl and her single mom, a cop with an unexpected love interest, a woman hiding a terrifying secret from her husband and a millennial lawyer who might find his grandfather is the best and worst roommate he ever could have hoped for.

The drama stems from Daniels' overall deal with NBC studio counterpart Universal Television. Under the pact, Daniels has worked on NBC's Taken, Shades of Blue and this year's military drama The Brave. A former Sony marketing assistant who landed a writing job on One Tree Hill, Daniels' credits also include The Vampire Diaries and Pan Am.

For NBC, The Village is the Bob Greenblatt-led network's first pilot order of the 2018-19 season.
