NBC Schedules 3 Comedies, 'Blacklist' Spinoff and More 'Chicago' for Midseason
The latest to firm up its midseason schedule is NBC. The network, No. 1 for the season thus far, has several key additions in store for spring — and it includes a lot of comedy.
Continuing NBC's return to half-hours, sitcoms Trial & Error, Great News and Powerless all join the schedule between February and April.
Powerless, the DC Comics comedy, moves into The Good Place's slot, on Thursday, Feb. 2, when the latter completes its freshman run. Powerless will air in the half-hour after the most stable comedy on the network's current roster, Superstore.
Trial & Error gets an advantageous lead-in from The Voice when it joins Tuesdays. Airing in the hour presently occupied by breakout This Is Us, Trial & Error will air back-to-back episodes at 9 and 9:30 p.m. on March 14 after premiering at the end of a special 90-minute episode of The Voice on March 7.
Great News, from Emmy winner Tracey Wigfield and her former 30 Rock bosses Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and Jack Burditt, also will run with back-to-back episodes at the conclusion of Trial & Error. It joins the schedule April 25.
Other new series include The Blacklist spinoff Redemption, airing in its parent series' Thursday time slot effective Feb. 23, and Chicago Justice. The fourth series in Dick Wolf's Windy City franchise is part of a previously announced strategy to improve post-football season Sundays.
The top of the week will see 2016 breakout Little Big Shots return to the 8 p.m. hour on Sunday, March 5, offering a lead-in to Chicago Justice and a shifted Shades of Blue. The Jennifer Lopez drama will now air at 10 p.m. that night.
