'We Lost Our Human'

Netflix has lined up its next interactive program: An animated special from the creators of its kids' series Pinky Malinky.

Rikke Asbjoern and Chris Garbutt are behind We Lost Our Human, which follows a cat named Pud and a dog named Ham who wake up one day to find their human — and all other humans — have disappeared from Earth. Viewers will be able to move through the show from the perspective of either Ham (Ayo Edebiri, Big Mouth) or Pud (Ben Schwartz, Parks and Recreation, Sonic the Hedgehog).

Adrienne C. Moore, Lauren Tom, Jon Glaser, Henry Rollins, Pinky Malinky star Lucas Grabeel and Matty Cardarople round out the voice cast.

"Creating a huge interactive project has been an exciting challenge and gave us a unique chance to approach Pud and Ham's story outside of a traditional format," said Asbjoern and Garbutt in a joint statement. "We got to explore their many parallel and interwoven paths, which resulted in our story room becoming a complex web of post-it notes, push pins and string. Quite a dizzying sight for anyone witnessing one of our story pitches."

Netflix has streamed several interactive programs in the past three years, most notably Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend. It has also released several interactive installments of kids' shows. We Lost our Human, however, is the first interactive program on the streamer that's not based on an already existing property.

"We Lost Our Human combines the very best of animation, comedy and interactivity, expanding the possibilities of how stories are told today," said Curtis Lelash, director original animation at Netflix. "We can't wait for audiences of all ages to take this hilarious journey with Pud and Ham, because their fate rests in the audience's hands … literally."

Asbjoern and Garbutt are dircting and executive producing the special and writing the script with Laura Sreebny and Nick Arciaga.

Edebiri is repped by CAA, ID, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and Del Shaw. Moore is repped by A3 Artists Agency, ID and Jackoway Austen.
