Netflix Orders Instagram-Inspired Baking Show 'The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell'
Netflix is adding to its growing lineup of food shows.
The streamer has given a series order to the Instagram-inspired baking show The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell.
McConnell is an artist and photographer who has gained social media fame for her Instagram account, where she posts photos of weird and creepy baked goods. Her account currently has more than 250,000 followers. McConnell is also the author of the cookbook Deceptive Desserts: A Lady's Guide to Baking Bad!
With Curious Creations, which is being produced by The Jim Henson Co. and Wilshire Studios, McConnell will welcome viewers into her terrifyingly delicious home. In every episode she will bake, sculpt and sew to create delectable confections and hauntingly disturbing decor with the help of her colorful collection of creatures.
Netflix's food programming first took off with the documentary series Chef's Table, which is set to bow its fifth season on Sept. 28. The streamer now has a number of food-centric shows of varying formats, including the travel series Somebody Feed Phil, David Chang's Ugly Delicious and the competition series Nailed It! On Oct. 19, Netflix will debut Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, based on the Samin Nosrat book of the same name.
Curious Creations was one of several new projects announced Sunday during the streamer's day at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. Netflix vp original series Cindy Holland also unveiled Madam C.J. Walker starring Octavia Spencer and White Lines from Alex Pina.
