Netflix Rounds Out Cast for RuPaul Comedy 'AJ and the Queen'
Netflix has rounded out the cast for its RuPaul-led comedy series AJ and the Queen.
Josh Segarra (Orange Is the New Black), Michael-Leon Wooley (The Princess and the Frog), Katerina Tannenbaum (Sweetbitter) and Tia Carrere (Wayne's World, Lilo and Stitch) will co-star in the comedy written by RuPaul and Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City).
The 10-episode comedy series stars the Emmy winner as Ruby Red, a bigger-than-life but down-on-her-luck drag queen who travels across America from club to club in an RV from the '90s with her unlikely sidekick AJ, a recently orphaned, tough-talking, scrappy 11-year-old stowaway. As they travel from city to city, Ruby's message of love and acceptance changes the lives of people along the way. (And RuPaul will perform a musical number in every drag club.)
Segarra will play Hector, Ruby's boyfriend who has a dark and dangerous side. Wooley is Louis, a blind drag queen. Tannenbaum is set as Brianna, described as a clueless hooker with a deep connection to AJ. Carrere is Lady Danger, a comic villain who is infamous in the local drag scene for injecting cheap silicone into her clients at the clubs.
The series hails from Warner Bros. TV and studio based MPK Productions.
Wooley is repped by Bleecker Street and SGSBC; Tannenbaum is with Buchwald and One Entertainment; Segarra is with Abrams Artists, ATA Management and Jackoway Tyerman; and Carrere is with Innovative and the Characters Talent Agency.
A premiere date for AJ and the Queen has not yet been determined.
