Zooey Deschanel made her debut as a sitcom star in Fox's fall series New Girl on Tuesday, Sept. 20. The show pilot finds her character Jess ending a relationship with a cheating boyfriend, and moving in with three single guys she finds on the Internet.

The series also stars Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone. Damon Wayans, Jr. appears in the pilot as Coach, but will be replaced by Lamorene Morris in episode two.

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the cast at Fox's Fall Lauch Eco-Casino Party, where they dished on their characters, the theme song (written and performed by Deschanel), and just what the singer/actress is like on set.
