Oscar nominee Ramsey Naito has been named head of animation at Nickelodeon, the second major hire under new network chief Brian Robbins.

Naito, who earned 2018 Oscar and Producers Guild Award nods for producing The Boss Baby, will become executive vp animation development and production at the Viacom-owned channel. She will oversee Nick's animation content across TV, film and digital, from established franchises such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to new projects and talent to keep the content pipeline flowing.

"Ramsey is a proven hit-maker and creative leader who has helped bring to life some incredibly imaginative characters for audiences of all ages," Robbins said Tuesday in a statement. "One of our goals is to exponentially grow our animation business and output on every platform, and I have no doubt that Ramsey will help us get there through a new generation of innovative, creator-driven content."

Naito joins Shauna Phelan, who last week was named head of live-action scripted content, on the executive team at Nickelodeon.

The new job will be the second go-round at Nick for Naito, who previously was vp production and development at Nickelodeon Movies. After that, she had stints at Cartoon Network, Blue Sky Studios and DreamWorks Animation. Naito most recently produced the next SpongeBob movie, which is due in 2020 from Paramount.

She takes over from Chris Viscardi, who is moving to a producer role and will develop feature-length animated content for Nick and other outlets.

Naito's hire comes amid an animation boom among TV producers, with series aimed at both kids and adults growing at a fast clip.
