Nicolas Winding Refn Sets Amazon Crime Series 'Too Old to Die Young'
Nicolas Winding Refn is the latest auteur filmmaker to make the move to television.
Amazon on Wednesday handed out a straight-to-series order to a 10-episode crime series from the Drive director. Refn will helm the project, titled Too Old to Die Young, and also write the script alongside Ed Brubaker. The pair will executive produce.
The show is described as being in a similar vein to Refn’s Pusher trilogy, which focused on Danish criminals caught up in the drug trade. Too Old to Die Young will explore the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles by following characters’ existential journeys from being killers to becoming samurais in the City of Angels.
The streamer already has a relationship with Refn, as it released The Neon Demon, the Danish director's 2016 horror flick starring Elle Fanning. Other credits include Only God Forgives, Valhalla Rising and Bronson.
Brubaker, for his part, is a comic book writer who most recently served as a supervising producer and writer on HBO's futuristic drama Westworld.
Too Old to Die Young joins Amazon's roster of upcoming shows from A-list creators and stars, which also includes a drama from David O. Russell starring Julianne Moore and Robert DeNiro and Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner's follow-up.
Refn is repped by WME.
