Norm Macdonald Sets Netflix Talk Show

Nearly a year after lamenting to David Letterman that there were too many nightly talk shows, Norm Macdonald is getting one of his own.

Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of Norm Macdonald Has a Show, which marks the streaming giant’s latest unscripted entry. Letterman, who has his own Netflix talk show, will serve as a creative partner — or, as he jokingly refers to his role in the press release, a "location scout" — on the series.

The Canadian comedian will host Norm Macdonald Has a Show alongside his trusty sidekick, Adam Eget. The pair will invite one celebrity guest for each episode. The talk show will, per Netflix, “deliver great and unexpected conversation, jokes and a behind-the-scenes look at Norm's world."

Macdonald has been hosting his own weekly podcast called Norm Macdonald Live, on which former Late Show With David Letterman producer Daniel Kellison acts as executive producer. The actor-writer acknowledged in January that the show had attracted the attention of the streaming service.

Norm Macdonald Has a Show is produced under Macdonald's Anchor Spud Productions banner, along with Pygmy Wolf Productions and Lionsgate Television. Macdonald will serve as an executive producer and co-showrunner on the project, as will Lori Jo Hoekstra. Other exec producers include Kellison and K.P. Anderson, the latter of whom already executive produces Netflix's The Joel McHale Show With Joel McHale.

Netflix has been aggressively pushing into the talk space of late. The streamer followed up Chelsea Handler's short-lived Chelsea with talk entries from Letterman (My Next Guest Needs No Introduction) and Joel McHale (The Joel McHale Show With Joel McHale), along with forthcoming series from Daily Show breakouts Michelle Wolf and Hasan Minhaj.

Macdonald is a longtime comic who formerly served as a "Weekend Update" anchor on Saturday Night Live for three of his five years on the NBC staple, before eventually becoming a judge on Last Comic Standing. He is also a veteran of the Roseanne writers room and wrote on the show's revival, as well.

Macdonald is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Eget is repped by Jackoway Tyerman. Hoekstra is repped by Morris Yorn. Letterman is repped by CAA. Anderson is repped by The Gersh Agency, 3 Arts Entertainment and Stone, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder & Christopher. Kellison is repped by Jackoway Tyerman.
