Phoebe Waller-Bridge Sets Rom-Com Thriller Series 'Run' With eOne
Phoebe Waller-Bridge has lined up another TV project.
The Fleabag star, along with her producing partner Vicky Jones under their DryWrite banner, is developing a new series, Run, with Entertainment One (eOne). The show will be written by Jones (Killing Eve) and will feature Waller-Bridge in a recurring role. Run marks DryWrite’s inaugural television series, as the company has previously focused on theatrical productions.
Run is described as part romantic comedy, part thriller. It centers on ex-lovers who made a pact 15 years ago that if they ever needed to escape life, they could send each other a simple text message — “RUN” — and impulsively disappear together. Jones and Waller-Bridge will executive produce alongside Emily Leo of Wigwam Films (Under the Shadow). The announcement was made by Mark Gordon, eOne’s president and chief content officer at eOne’s annual Drama Preview this morning in London.
“We are thrilled to partner with the incredible team at eOne and Emily Leo to bring this badass romantic comedy thriller to life,” said Jones. “In eOne we found a team passionate about storytelling and committed to making stand-out television for audiences around the world.”
“We are delighted to work with DryWrite on this provocative new project,” said Pancho Mansfield, eOne's president of global scripted programming for television. “Vicky and Phoebe’s unique voices and talent for creating boundary-pushing original characters have made them bold, creative and critical successes on the screen and stage. We look forward to joining forces with them on this intriguing premise that will undoubtedly capture audiences’ attention.”
The series will be spearheaded by Carolyn Newman and Polly Williams for eOne. Jones’s credits include directing the plays Mydidae (Soho Theatre, then Trafalgar Studios) and Fleabag (Fringe First Award, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2013, then Soho Theatre), as well as writing Touch and The One. In addition to creating and starring in Fleabag and Crashing, Waller-Bridge’s onscreen credits include an upcoming role in Solo: A Star Wars Story, as well as parts in Broadchurch, The Cafe and The Iron Lady.
Jones and Waller-Bridge are repped by UTA in the U.S. Jones is repped by United Artists, and Waller-Bridge is repped by Hatton McEwan Penford and Independent in the U.K.
