'Pitch': Watch Kids Respond to MLB's First Female Player (Exclusive Video)
Fox's Pitch is set to make Major League Baseball history as the fall drama explores what happens when a woman breaks the gender barrier in the National Pastime.
As part of the network's marketing push for the Dan Fogelman drama starring Kylie Bunbury, Fox rounded up a group of cute kids and polled them on if they thought a woman could ever pitch in the big-leagues. Then they showed them footage of Bunbury's Ginny Baker making history on Pitch. Prepare to wipe the tears from your eyes after watching the clip, exclusive to THR, below.
Pitch — produced in partnership with Major League Baseball — centers on Ginny Baker, a young female pitcher (Bunbury) who defies the odds when she becomes the first woman to play in the major leagues. The cast also includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Ali Larter, Mark Consuelos, Mo McRae and fellow recurring players Bob Balaban as Frank Reid, the owner of the Padres; Chastity Dotson as Janet Baker, Ginny's mother; Ryan Dorsey as Tommy Miller, the pitcher Ginny replaced on the team's roster and her antagonist; Jack McGee as Buck, the team's pitching coach; and Michael Beach as Bill Baker, Ginny's father. Recent additions include Wendie Malick, B.J. Britt and JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who booked a recurring role on the series from Fogelman, Kevin Falls and Rick Singer.
Fox is promoting the series as a "game changer" and offering early screenings at a few Minor League Baseball games as well as a forthcoming event at Dodger Stadium, where parts of the second episode were filmed.
