'The Punisher' Trailer: Marvel's Netflix Series Goes Full Metallica
"Shoot on sight." "My pleasure."
Frank Castle is back, standing front and bloody center in a brand new trailer for The Punisher, the latest series from Marvel and Netflix. Jon Bernthal reprises his role as the titular killer, which he first inhabited in the second season of Marvel's Daredevil, the fourth actor to bring the Marvel Comics vigilante to live-action life. (Thanks to Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson for your service.)
The latest Punisher trailer, clocking in at two and a half minutes, gives a picture of the story and tone we're in store for as Marvel embarks on its most violent series yet — which is saying something, considering the beheadings and other assorted forms of brutality seen elsewhere, especially in Daredevil.
Despite Frank seemingly attaining vengeance against the people who murdered his family at the end of Daredevil season two, it appears there are more people responsible for the great tragedy swirling around his life, and he aims to kill them all. And he aims to kill them in style, as Metallica's "One" provides the score for the trailer, Lars Ulrich's breakneck-paced drums pounding simultaneously with the thrumming of automatic machine guns firing.
As the story for The Punisher starts to become clearer, an even more pressing question comes into focus: the matter of the show's release date. Netflix has yet to provide any concrete information on when to expect The Punisher beyond 2017 — and with precious little time left in the year, paired with the increasing momentum behind the series, one has to assume The Punisher will be here before you know it, arriving without any true warning, just like the vigilante himself. An exciting prospect indeed. In other words, keep your nearby weekends clear for bingeing, Marvel fans.
In addition to Bernthal, The Punisher stars Daredevil and Defenders veteran Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Girls alum Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Castle's confidant Micro, and Westworld black hat Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, the man destined to become the legendary Punisher villain known as Jigsaw.
Stay tuned to THR for more news on The Punisher as the mystery surrounding its release builds.
