'Raised by Wolves' Renewed at HBO Max
Raised by Wolves will ride again at HBO Max.
The WarnerMedia-backed streaming service has handed out a speedy season two renewal for the Ridley Scott-produced sci-fi drama. The pickup arrives two weeks after the drama launched as an HBO Max original.
Originally picked up straight to series at WarnerMedia-owned basic cable network TNT in 2018 and moved to the streamer last year, HBO Max says the show has grown its audience nearly 50 percent week-over-week since it bowed with three episodes on Sept. 3. HBO Max, like other streamers, does not release traditional viewership data.
The series currently has a 74 percent and 86 percent rating among critics and viewers, respectively, on RottenTomatoes.com. "After a promising start, goes from intriguing to stultifying," The Hollywood Reporter's chief TV critic Daniel Fienberg said of the show in his review.
"When I think of Raised by Wolves, I think of artistry; artistry in crafting a compelling storyline, artistry in the out-of-this-world production design, special effects and cinematography, artistry in our actor’s portrayals of these memorable characters, and artistry attached to the legendary work of Ridley Scott, Aaron Guzikowski and our phenomenal crew,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of originals at HBO Max. "This chart-topping series beautifully weaves together Ridley’s hallmarks of sci-fi and horror while offering fans one of the most original storylines they’ve seen in some time. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for season two."
Created by Guzikowski, Travis Fimmel stars in the series about two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. Scott's Scott Free Productions banner exec produces the series alongside Guzikowski, Danny Zucker, Jordan Sheehan, Adam Kolbrenner and Mark Huffman.
With the renewal, HBO Max has yet to cancel a scripted original. The streamer, which launched in late May, has already renewed anthology Love Life and DC Universe import Doom Patrol, with the latter set to stream exclusively on the platform for its third season. TBS import Search Party previously scored an early season four pickup before it debuted on the platform. HBO Max's forthcoming originals include the Gossip Girl update, Tokyo Vice, Dune: The Sisterhood, Station 11 and The Flight Attendant, among others.
