Regina King Signs First-Look Deal With Netflix
Netflix and Regina King are deepening their relationship.
The Oscar and Emmy winner has signed a first-look deal with the streaming giant, via her production company Royal Ties. The multiyear pact will have King developing both film and series projects for Netflix. King's sister, Reina King, will serve as head of production for Royal Ties.
"Regina King is a multi-faceted talent both behind and in front of the camera," Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said Wednesday in a statement. "She's been a trailblazer for years, with boundless creativity and impeccable taste in projects, and we couldn't be more thrilled that she will bring her formidable talents to Netflix."
Said King, "I am beyond thrilled to join the Netflix family. They are at the top of their game and as an artist I am so excited to come play in this wonderful sandbox they have created for storytellers."
King won an Emmy in 2018 (the third of her career) for her role on Netflix's limited series Seven Seconds, and followed that up with an Oscar win for If Beale Street Could Talk. She currently is working on Damon Lindelof's Watchmen adaptation for HBO.
Behind the camera, King has directed episodes of Insecure, This Is Us, The Good Doctor and Shameless, and she also helmed and executive produced the 2018 ABC pilot The Finest. King is repped by ICM Partners, John Carrabino Management and Del Shaw.
The deal is the latest in a string of pacts Netflix has made with creatives. King will join the likes of Shonda Rhimes, Ryan Murphy, Kenny Ortega, Kenya Barris, Brad Falchuk and Barack and Michelle Obama in developing content for the streamer.
