Rose McIver Comedy 'Ghosts' Nabs CBS Series Order
CBS continues to solidify its 2021-22 schedule.
The network on Wednesday handed out a series pickup for scripted comedy Ghosts, starring iZombie grad Rose McIver.
The single-camera comedy, originally picked up to pilot a year ago and stalled by the pandemic, is based on the British series of the same name. It revolves around a struggling young couple whose dreams come true when they inherit a beautiful country house only to find it's both falling apart and inhabited by many of its deceased previous residents.
McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar (The Mindy Project) star as the couple, with a cast that includes Brandon Scott Jones, Richie Moriarty, Asher Grodman, Rebecca Wisocky, Sheila Carrasco, Danielle Pinnock and Roman Zaragoza. The order is for 13 total episodes.
New Girl alums Joe Port and Joe Wiseman penned the script and exec produce the Lionsgate, CBS Studios and BBC Studios co-production alongside Mathew Baynton, Jim Howick, Simon Farnaby, Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond, Martha Howe-Douglas, Alison Carpenter, Debra Hayward, Alison Owen and Angie Stephenson. Trent O'Donnell directed and exec produced the pilot.
Ghosts becomes CBS' first comedy series pickup for the 2021-22 broadcast season. The project was one of four comedy pilots that were picked up as part of the 2020 development season that was effectively wiped out by the pandemic. CBS opted to keep the options on the cast and roll the project, ultimately filming the pilot when it was safe for cameras to roll again late last year.
Ghosts joins straight-to-series pickups for CSI: Vegas and Dick Wolf-produced FBI spinoff FBI: International on CBS' 2021-21 schedule. The network has been busy handing out early renewals and this week added three more seasons of Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon. Other shows set to return to the network's schedule next season are Bob Hearts Abishola, FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, The Neighborhood and The Equalizer.
