Following prolonged negotiations, Sam Shepard is headed for Netflix.

The August: Osage County star is set to topline the streaming service's family drama from the creators of Damages, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The 13-episode series -- produced by Sony Pictures Television -- hails from Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler (aka KZK). The series centers on a family's adult siblings whose secrets and scars come to light with the return of their black-sheep brother (The Dark Knight Rises' Ben Mendelsohn).

Oscar nominee Shepard (The Right Stuff) will star as Robert, the patriarch of the family, opposite Sissy Spacek, who will play the matriarch. Friday Night Lights Emmy winner Kyle Chandler stars as the middle son and Freaks and Geeks and ER alum Linda Cardellini is set as the youngest of the family's four children.

The casting marks a reunion for Shepard and Spacek. The duo previously starred in Raggedy Man, Streets of Laredo, The Good Old Boys and Crimes of the Heart.

Shepard most recently starred in the miniseries Klondike, Discovery's first scripted entry, and earned a lead actor mini Emmy nomination for 1999's Dash and Lilly. He also starred in the feature adaptation of August: Osage County, and counts Mud and Killing Them Softly among his credits. Shepard is repped by ICM Partners.
