Sara Gilbert to Star in 'Verbatim' Anthology at HBO Max

Sara Gilbert is headed to HBO Max to star in a pilot at the streamer.

Gilbert (The Conners) is one of seven actors to join the cast of Verbatim, a potential anthology series that dramatizes real events by taking dialogue from primary sources and presenting it verbatim. Rob Huebel (I Know This Much Is True), Leland Orser (Berlin Station), Lyriq Bent (Netflix's She's Gotta Have It), J.R. Cacia (Infidel), Tate Donovan (MacGyver) and Kevin Dunn (Veep) have also joined the project; Chris Messina was previously cast.

Verbatim is based on a New York Times Op-Docs series by Brett Weiner, which previously screened at Sundance in 2014 and 2016. The pilot for the HBO Max anthology will follow the 2019 college admissions bribery scandal.

Since Verbatim is an anthology, Gilbert's involvement is unlikely to affect her status on ABC's The Conners, which she stars in and executive produces.

Weiner will direct Verbatim and executive produce alongside Red Hour's Nicholas Weinstock, Jackie Cohn and Ben Stiller; the Times' Kathleen Lingo; and Left/Right's Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver and Kevin Vargas. Scott Lochmus and Michelene Starnadori are producers.

Gilbert is repped by Management 360 and Gersh; Huebel by UTA and Jackoway Austen; Orser by Gersh; Bent by Buchwald and Luber Roklin Entertainment in the U.S. and The Associates Talent Agency and Seth Management in Canada; Cacia by The Coronel Group; Donovan by David DeCamillo and Mark Herzberg; and Dunn by Gersh and Lighthouse Entertainment.
