Scott Rosenbaum has signed on to pen the pilot script for Port Royal, Gale Anne Hurd’s hourlong pirate drama at FX.

Rosenbaum, whose credits include writing and executive producing Chuck, V and The Shield, will write the script for the story chronicling Jamaica’s rise as the “richest and wickedest city” in the new world that is set in the late 17th century.

The story was developed by Hurd, through her Valhalla Entertainment shingle, and will revolve around pirates, corrupt politicians and ruthless merchants.

Hurd will executive produce along with producers GK-tv, Vahalla Entertainment, FX Productions and Fox International Channels.

Hurd, who developed and produced AMC’s The Walking Dead with Frank Darabont, has long been obsessed with pirates and Port Royal and has an extensive collection of books on the subject.

"The real story of privateers and the politics of the era has never been explored on screen, and I’m excited to bring that world to life with the terrific team at GK-tv,” she noted when the project was first announced in April.

Rosenbaum, repped by UTA and Gendler & Kelly, first cut his teeth as a writer-producer on FX’s The Shield from 2002 to 2007.
