Ron Moore's Apple Space Drama Adds Shantel VanSanten, Wrenn Schmidt (Exclusive)
Apple's space-race drama from Ronald D. Moore is expanding its cast.
Shantel VanSanten and Wrenn Schmidt are the latest additions to the show, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The untitled show, which received a straight-to-series order in December 2017, is set in a world where the global space race never ended.
VanSanten and Schmidt join a cast that includes Joel Kinnaman, Sarah Jones and Michael Dorman.
VanSanten (Shooter, One Tree Hill) will play Karen Baldwin, the wife of astronaut Edward Baldwin (Kinnaman). The two are a prominent NASA couple.
Schmidt (The Looming Tower, Person of Interest) will play a NASA engineer named Margo Madison.
VanSanten is repped by Power Entertainment Group and Stone Genow. Schmidt is repped by ICM Partners, Greenlight Management and Peikoff Mahan.
The Apple series is Outlander showrunner Moore's latest foray into science fiction. He's a veteran of several Star Trek series and films and developed and ran Syfy's acclaimed Battlestar Galactica remake from 2004-09.
Moore co-created the Apple show with Fargo veterans Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi. All three are executive producers, along with Maril Davis.
The space-race series is one of 16 scripted series Apple has either picked up or is developing as it makes a big push into original programming. What's yet to be announced is when or how Apple will distribute its shows.
