Shawn Ryan is staying put at Sony Pictures Television.

In a big sign of support for the independent studio, the Timeless co-creator and his MiddKid banner has inked his third straight three-year overall deal with the company, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The deal comes on the heels of the recent departure of SPT co-presidents Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, who exited to lead video for deep-pocketed Apple.

Ryan is one of SPT's most important showrunners. The Shield creator has NBC's Timeless returning for a second season after Van Amburg and Erlicht scored the time-travel drama an 11th-hour second season after the network initially canceled the series. SPT gave up half the ownership on the series (it's now a co-production with Universal Television) and is covering all the costs associated with the series.

Ryan also has CBS' SWAT reboot, another co-production between SPT and CBS Television Studios, coming next season.

Marney Hochman heads Ryan's MiddKid banner. Ryan will continue to develop new projects for the studio.

Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra is now faced with replacing the well-liked Van Amburg and Erlicht as the broadcast development season begins in a few weeks. The exec — on the job for less than two weeks, when Van Amburg and Erlicht announced their departures — first plans to get to know his staff to determine if there are any internal candidates. Sources tell THR that Gail Berman, Matt Cherniss and Katherine Pope have been mentioned for the post, though Vinciquerra shot down speculation about all three.
