Sienna Miller, Michelle Dockery, Rupert Friend to Topline Netflix's 'Anatomy of a Scandal'
Netflix has lined up a trio of leads for its anthology Anatomy of a Scandal.
Sienna Miller, Michelle Dockery and Rupert Friend will star in the six-episode drama from David E. Kelley, which is based on Sarah Vaughan's best-selling novel. The show is described as an insightful and suspenseful series about sexual consent and privilege set in London; it's planned as a seasonal anthology.
Miller (Showtime's The Loudest Voice, 21 Bridges) will play Sophie Whitehouse, an Oxford graduate, wife and mother of two whose perfectly charmed life is about to explode.
Dockery (Downton Abbey, Apple's Defending Jacob) plays Kate Woodcroft, QC, a criminal barrister who specializes in prosecuting sexual crimes. She's risen quickly in her field and just got handed the case of a lifetime.
Friend (Homeland, CBS All Access' Strange Angel) plays James Whitehouse, an ambitious and charismatic junior minister who has always shared his wife's good fortune, until now.
Anatomy of a Scandal reteams Kelley with producer Bruna Papandrea, who previously worked together on HBO's Big Little Lies and The Undoing (the latter of which premieres in October). Kelley also has ABC's Big Sky due to premiere in November and Disney+ dramedy Big Shots and an adaptation of Stephen King's The Institute on his plate.
Kelley and Melissa James Gibson (House of Cards, The Americans) are adapting Vaughan's book and will serve as showrunners. S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) will direct all six episodes. Executive producers are Kelley; Gibson; Liza Chasin (The Loudest Voice) of 3Dot Productions; Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Allie Goss of Made Up Stories; and Vaughan. Margaret Chernin is a co-EP.
