'The Simpsons' Maps Out Springfield With 'Game of Thrones' Tribute Titles (VIDEO)

During Sunday's episode, the Fox series paid homage to Westeros and its mechanical opening sequence.

"Winter" may still be a month away for fans of HBO's Game of Thrones, but fans got a rather elaborate homage to the fantasy series during Sunday's episode of The Simpsons.

Breaking from their usual opening credits, the Fox series staged a full minute-long reenactment of Thrones' distinctive titles. The sequence shows Springfield landmarks popping up like mechanized cogs, as the shot surveys the map of Springfield and characters appear in renaissance fair style garb.

Thrones' actual theme tune is used, in lieu of a Simpson-ized version, and the coup de grâce comes when "The Couch" is used in place of "The Wall."

Game of Thrones returns to HBO with its second season on April 1.
