'SNL' Cold Open Spoofs 'Bachelor' Finale, Mueller Probe

Saturday night's cold open of NBC's Saturday Night Live spoofed The Bachelor, with Kate McKinnon reprising her impression of special counsel Robert Mueller. McKinnon’s Mueller was the Bachelor, telling a contestant, played by current castmember Cecily Strong, that he could not commit to a Trump collusion indictment.

“The reality is that I don’t think I can give you everything that you want right now,” McKinnon said as Mueller.

“Collusion is literally the only thing I’ve been looking forward to for the past year,” Strong said. “I was ready, Bob. I was ready to do the damn thing.”

The drama of The Bachelor provided the perfect setup for a joke about Mueller’s ongoing investigation of possible Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. On the finale of ABC's hit series, which aired earlier this week, Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. proposed to one contestant before breaking it off and proposing instead to the runner-up.

Stormy Daniels, the adult film star who said this week that she’s free to talk about her alleged affair with Trump because he never signed their settlement agreement, also came up during the cold open. (McKinnon's other performances as Mueller can be viewed here.)

Saturday's show was hosted by first-timer Sterling K. Brown, who poked fun at his own NBC show, This Is Us, and the groundbreaking box-office hit movie he also appears in, Black Panther, throughout the night.

Another highlight of the episode was when Kenan Thompson's Family Feud sketch turned its gaze towards Oscar winners and losers, featuring Kate McKinnon as Frances McDormand, Beck Bennett as Guillermo del Toro and Chris Redd as Jordan Peele. Allison Janney, Willem Dafoe, Sally Hawkins and Timothee Chalamet were also skewered in the sketch.
