'SNL' Promo Touts Tom Hanks in "Role He Was Born to Play" for David S. Pumpkins Special

When the animated David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special airs on Saturday, Tom Hanks will be reprising the "role he was born to play," at least according to a new promo for the show.

The special is based on the popular "Haunted Elevator" sketch from the Oct. 22, 2016, episode of Saturday Night Live. The skit featured Hanks as mystery man David S. Pumpkins on an elevator wearing a pumpkin suit and surrounded by two skeleton dancers played by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan.

"You loved him as Forrest Gump, and he helped save Private Ryan. Now, see Tom Hanks, one of the greatest actors of all time in the role he was born to play," the promo, which was released Thursday, explained, before showing a sneak peek of Hanks' animated character introducing himself to some confused children.

Hanks will lend his voice talents to the special and will also appear onscreen at the beginning. Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) will also appear on the show. Sketch creators Day, Moynihan and Streeter Seidell will have voiceover roles as well.

The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special is set to air Saturday, Oct. 28, at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
