'SNL's' Leslie Jones Books Guest Role on 'Kevin (Probably) Saves the World' (Exclusive)
Leslie Jones is embarking on some wish fulfillment.
The Saturday Night Live favorite has booked a guest role on ABC's Kevin (Probably) Saves the World. While the role may seem like stunt casting, it's actually the opposite, as Jones has been a fan of the series and has tweeted her admiration and support of the Jason Ritter starrer.
Creators/showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters (Agent Carter) wrote the part specifically for Jones, and the timing worked out so that she was able to accommodate it before heading to Pyeongchang, South Korea, where she will serve as a contributor for NBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics. Jones will film the spot Tuesday.
Jones will play Cindy, a fellow celestial being like Yvette (Kimberly Hébert Gregory). When Yvette starts to experience some very human weaknesses, she recruits Cindy as her replacement — though Kevin (Ritter) will quickly learn that Cindy’s approach is a little more…intense.
"Leslie started tweeting about being a fan of the show, and the entire cast and crew were delighted and looked forward to her tweets every week. So as we were breaking the final episode, we wrote a part for her — never actually believing she’d be available. But the stars and schedules aligned, and Leslie wanted to do it — we still can’t believe it," Fazekas said. "Watching Leslie meet Jason and Kimberly for the first time was amazing and surprisingly emotional — she’s such a pure heart and such a genuine fan. We’re all giddy around here. And Leslie fits right in!"
Jones is such a superfan that she added a butterfly to her Twitter handle in a show of support for ABC to renew the bubble drama.
"We couldn’t be happier to have Leslie join the Kevin (Probably) Saves the World universe. It shows how social media can have a positive effect," Butters said.
In addition to being a repertory player on NBC's SNL, Jones recently starred in the Ghostbusters reboot, as well as Trainwreck and Masterminds. She'd repped by Integral Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson.
Jones' casting comes after Kevin staged an Agent Carter mini-reunion (via voiceover) with James D’arcy, Enver Gjokaj and Wynn Everett. The series will next feature a Reaper, with Bret Harrison and Tyler Labine reprising their roles for a scene in the Feb. 20 episode.
Kevin airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
