Liam McIntyre is going from playing Spartacus to a guardian angel.

The Spartacus alum has been tapped to co-star in NBC drama pilot Unveiled, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The drama follows an ensemble of flawed guardian angels who intervene in the lives of those who find themselves facing crisis in an attempt to restore their faith and, often, save their lives.

McIntyre will play Michael Hunter, a warrior and rebel when it comes to the rules who has been a guardian angel since the beginning. Warn down by years of exposure to human suffering, his approach to interacting with mortals has become harsh and brutally honest. Influenced by his brother Lucas, a fallen angel, Michael sometimes believes their causes to be futile.

He joins a cast that also includes Selma co-star Stephan James, who stars as Daniel, a rookie guardian angel.

John Sakmar and Kerry Lenhart (The Glades, Psych) will pen the script and exec produce the Universal Television and LightWorkers Media drama alongside Mark Burnett and Roma Downey.

McIntyre, repped by WME, B&B Management and Australia's Independent Management Co., counts The CW's The Flash, HBO's The Pacific and feature The Legend of Hercules among his credits.
