Arrow's Stephen Amell knows the pressure of releasing a first-look photo for a superhero costume, and revealed that his own nearly went terribly wrong.

Hot on the heels of Melissa Benoist's costume debut for CBS' Supergirl, the Arrow star thought back on his own 2012 reveal. The whole Arrow team knew the photo would be of the upmost importance, as the first look at Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman for David E. Kelley's NBC pilot caused an outcry a year earlier.

After a painstaking and ultra-secret process, Amell and the Arrow team thought they had settled on the perfect photo, until the CW show's producers showed it to Katie Cassidy (Laurel).

"She immediately pointed out a glaring problem," Amell wrote on his Facebook page Friday. "The angle of the photo and the placement of my bow made it appear as though I was maybe a little TOO excited about wearing the Arrow suit. She was right. It definitely looked like I had an erection."

The photo was changed in time, and it "erupted online (sorry...) with a fantastic approval rating," Amell wrote.

Warner Bros. Television has a track record of generating buzz by releasing early pilot photos for high-profile projects, including in Grant Gustin in costume for The Flash and AnnaSophia Robb as a young Carrie Brawdshaw for Carrie Diaries.
