Armstrong, who played Angela's mother on ABC's critically acclaimed teen drama My So-Called Life, has been cast as Daphne's (Katie Leclerc) formidable pre-med professor. She first appears in the season premiere, which is slated to air in 2015.

Creator and executive producer Lizzy Weiss hinted at Armstrong's casting on Twitter earlier this month with a cryptic tweet.

Armstrong is repped by David Shapira & Associates and Shelter Entertainment. Her recent TV credits include a recurring gig on House of Lies and guest turns on Reckless, True Blood, Drop Dead Diva, Rake, Castle, CSI and Mad Men.

Switched at Birth airs a special holiday episode Dec. 8 at 9 p.m. on ABC Family.
