TBS is showing an early show of faith for Jason Jones scripted comedy The Detour.

The Turner-owned cable network has renewed the series for a second season, just days ahead of its series premiere. The 13-episode pickup is three more than its 10-episode freshman order.

Co-created by Jones’ wife and former Daily Show colleague Samantha Bee (whose late-night talk show Full Frontal earned a full-year pickup earlier this week at TBS), The Detour is inspired by the couple’s own experiences with family vacations, as Bee and Jones have three children. The series premieres Monday, April 11, with the first episode available Wednesday on YouTube and Facebook.

"I'm very excited to be going back to making my favorite show not yet on TV and look forward to making outrageous demands in my rider for the second season," Jones said.
"Jason and Sam's vision and execution of the first season was original and unexpected at every ridiculous turn," said Brett Weitz, executive vp original programming at TBS. "Having Jason as executive producer, director and star really brought a definition to the voice of the characters and a realism to this family."
In addition to the premiere's early online debut, TBS offered a sneak preview during its NCAA Tournament coverage.

Jones, Bee, Brennan Shroff and Tony Hernandez exec produce The Detour, which co-stars Natalie Zea, Ashley Gerasimovich and Liam Carroll.

The Detour is part of an entirely new comedy roster at TBS, which under new topper Kevin Reilly has been pursuing more out-of-the-box comedies in a bid to cut through a crowded scripted landscape of more than 400 originals. The cabler's comedy offerings also include Rashida Jones' Tribeca, which also scored an early renewal as part of a landmark 25-hour marathon debut; as well as upcoming series WreckedSearch Party and People of Earth in addition to animated import American Dad.
