Television Critics Awards Nominations: HBO's 'True Detective' Leads

"The Good Wife," "Breaking Bad" and "Game of Thrones" are other top nominees for the annual awards show.

The Television Critics Association nominations have been announced.

HBO's critically-lauded True Detective tops the nominees with four, including individual achievement in drama for Matthew McConaughey, outstanding new program, outstanding achievement in movies/miniseries and specials and program of the year.

CBS' The Good Wife, AMC's departed Breaking Bad and HBO's Game of Thrones follow with three nominations apiece. All three programs are vying for the top prize, along with True Detective and Netflix's breakout Orange Is the New Black.

Fox's Golden Globe-winning Brooklyn Nine-Nine is among the nominees for outstanding new program, which also include FX's Fargo and Fox's Sleepy Hollow. Other notable nominees include past winners such as Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany, Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, Louie's Louis C.K., The Daily Show, The Amazing Race and Sesame Street.

CBS leads the nominations with nine, followed by HBO with eight, FX with seven and Fox with six.

Winners for the 30th annual TCA Awards will be announced Saturday, July 19, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel during the group's summer press tour.

“These nominations are generated by the TCA membership, and choosing the best in television is not an easy task,” said TCA president Scott D. Pierce. “Not because good television is hard to find, but because there are so many deserving shows from which to choose."

“This is a monumental occasion for us, as we celebrate 30 years of the TCA Awards,” said Amber Dowling, TCA vp. “Starting with the unveiling of our new logo today, we have some special presentations in store to commemorate the event, as we welcome back past presidents and honorees, and announce our host next month. The evening is sure to be full of surprises, and I’m excited to share this incredible milestone with our members.”
