'The Crown' Hits Nielsen's Streaming Top 10 With Season 4 Debut

The Crown Season 4-

The Crown debuted its fourth season on Netflix on Sunday, Nov. 15 — and despite the new episodes only being available that day, it still made Nielsen's streaming top 10 for that week.

The drama about Britain's royal family took up 807 million minutes of Netflix users' time from Nov. 9-15. The Nielsen streaming rankings take into account all episodes of a series, so it's likely that The Crown viewers spent a decent portion of that time catching up on or rewatching prior seasons of the series.

The Queen's Gambit spent its third consecutive week at No. 1 in the Nielsen rankings, the longest such streak since the ratings service started releasing weekly numbers in August. Netflix users watched 1.37 billion minutes' worth of the limited series, a drop of only 6 percent from the previous week.

Disney+ also had a foothold in the top 10 for the third straight week with The Mandalorian. The Star Wars series held onto the third spot in the chart, with 873 million minutes of viewing time.

Streaming platforms contend Nielsen's methodology doesn't capture the full scope of viewing on devices other than TV sets. Nielsen also only measures U.S. audiences, not those in other countries.
