'The Undoing' Ends With Series-High Viewership on HBO

The finale of The Undoing drew the biggest one-night audience for an HBO series in more than a year.

The drama, which reteams Big Little Lies star/executive producer Nicole Kidman and showrunner David E. Kelley, delivered 3 million viewers across all platforms Sunday, per HBO. That's the most viewers for a series on the premium cable outlet since Big Little Lies closed out its second season with 3.1 million first-night viewers in July 2019.

HBO said the total tune-in Sunday was up 43 percent week-to-week (vs. 1.9 million for the Nov. 22 episode). Linear viewing rose by 42 percent to about 1.8 million viewers (final figures from Nielsen aren't available as of publication time). The show has grown its on-air audience each week and more than doubled from the premiere (676,000 viewers) to the finale.

The debut episode, meanwhile, has grown to more than 9 million viewers since its first airing Oct. 25.

The Undoing has also been a boon for WarnerMedia's streaming platform HBO Max. Though the company doesn't release detailed viewing figures for the service (following the practice of other streamers), it daid The Undoing was the most watched series on Max in the week of Nov. 23, and viewing of the finale on Sunday grew by 80 percent over the previous episode.

WarnerMedia also said that The Flight Attendant, which premiered on Thanksgiving on HBO Max, debuted to a larger audience than any other HBO Max original series to date. It ranked second on the streamer to The Undoing for the week.
