Tim Kring Sets Web Series Linked to Fox's 'Touch'
Touch's Tim Kring is taking the Fox series beyond the small screen with Daybreak, a five-episode web series linked to the Kiefer Sutherland drama.
90210's Ryan Eggold and Disturbia's Sarah Roemer star in the series of 10-minute installments penned by Raven Metzner (Six Degrees). 24 director Jon Cassar will helm the series, which is timed to launch online May 31 -- the same day that Touch wraps its freshman season on Fox.
While not directly connected to Touch, Kring notes the series and Daybreak have two things in common: the dodecahedron, which was recently introduced on the Fox drama, and technology from AT&T.
"On Touch, we recently introduced a 12-sided shape called a dodecahedron. It's a real thing, which many believe has mystical powers. You’ll see it again in the May 31 season finale," Kring wrote on his blog. "Its journey will continue that same day in the premiere chapter of Daybreak, a series of webisodes in which AT&T technology has the starring role."
Eggold stars as Ben Wilkins, whose life is turned upside down by the dodecahedron, as he works to get his life back in order using AT&T technology. Ad firm BBDO connected Kring and AT&T and produced the project.
"Daybreak doesn’t share any common cast or plot lines with Touch, but it will have a similar look and feel," Kring added.
The interactive series will also include a Jack Boxer application of its own, named after a group from Daybreak that helps Ben.
"Daybreak is an original drama series we developed with Heroes and Touch creator Tim Kring to give our customers a new way to experience our brand and innovation story across multiple layers of media," AT&T senior vp brand marketing and advertising Esther Lee wrote on her blog.
"Kring is credited with bringing the concept of 'transmedia' to Hollywood with his cross-platform entertainment. He is also known for his exploration of themes like inter-connectivity and global consciousness made possible through technology," she added. "After visiting AT&T Labs, he was convinced that our technology could help him lead the future of storytelling, and Daybreak is a product of that."
Daybreak will stream on its site at http://www.daybreak2012.com/ and across all AT&T platforms.
