TV Ratings: ABC Game Shows Win Second Straight Thursday
ABC captured its second straight Thursday ratings crown with its game show lineup, led by Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. NBC's Mr. Mayor cooled slightly in its second week but maintained most of its 18-49 rating, and CNN was again tops on cable.
Celebrity Wheel of Fortune scored a 1.17 rating among adults 18-49, even with last week's premiere, and 7.84 million total viewers, off a slight 4 percent. The Chase (0.86 in 18-49, 5.45 million) and The Hustler (0.59, 3.29 million) fell a little more — 9 percent and 17 percent in the demo and about 16 percent apiece in total viewers — but still led their respective hours in both measures.
Mr. Mayor (0.53 in 18-49, 3.73 million viewers) came down from its premiere (0.6, 5 million) but was mostly in line with its second episode last week (0.55, 4.41 million). Superstore returned from hiatus with a 0.48 and 2.45 million viewers, in line with its season average. Law & Order: SVU (0.64, 3.83 million) held steady.
Hell's Kitchen (0.7, 2.67 million) was on par with last week for Fox, while Call Me Kat (0.55, 2.84 million) and Last Man Standing (0.49, 2.84 million) declined some. CBS aired reruns of its comedies and an episode of Star Trek: Discovery (0.16, 1.5 million).
On cable, CNN averaged 3.68 million viewers in primetime, edging MSNBC (3.54 million) for the top spot. CNN also had nine of the top 10 shows on cable in adults 18-49, with an NBA telecast on TNT (Golden State-Denver) grabbing the other. The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC was the most watched cable program with 4.32 million viewers.
