TV Ratings: 'BattleBots' Drops in Return, 'Bones' Rises

'Big Brother' also fell in its first Thursday outing of the season.

Battlebots returned for its second season Thursday with a little less bite.

The competition series, first revived by ABC last summer after a five-year run on Comedy Central, returned for its second season to a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 — plummeting nine-tenths from its network premiere a year ago when it followed the strong season premiere of Celebrity Family Feud on Sundays. (Battlebots' two-hour opener was followed by a repeat of Celebrity Family Feud, which netted a 1.1 rating — a strong sign ahead of the game show's season premiere on Sunday.)

On CBS, Big Brother's first Thursday episode of the season also was down from a year ago, falling four-tenths to a 1.7 rating. That also was down two-tenths from Wednesday's season premiere (1.9 adults). CBS was otherwise quiet with repeats.

NBC's latest reality series, Spartan: Ultimate Team Competition, also saw diminished returns in its first Thursday outing. The show, which grabbed a 1.5 rating on Monday for its second episode, fell eight-tenths to a 0.7 rating without the help of Monday lead-in America Ninja Warrior. At 10 p.m., Aquarius was steady (0.4 adults).

Fox got some good news. Without competition from the NBA Finals, Bones rose two-tenths (0.9 adults). Unscripted offering Home Free was even with a 0.5 rating.

Beauty and the Beast (0.2 adults) was flat on The CW.
