TV Ratings: 'Big Bang' and 'Idol' Drop in First Face-off, 'SNL' Clip Show Improves NBC

In encores for the last two weeks, The Big Bang Theory had its first night of the season facing American Idol on Thursday night. And while the comedy did see a six-tenths of a point drop from its last original, its average 5.1 rating among adults 18-49 was still enough to blow the rest of the night's lineup out of the water on the first night of the February sweep.

Fellow comedies The Millers (2.8 adults), Crazy Ones (1.9 adults) and Two and a Half Men (1.9 adults) each shed half of a point, while Elementary, hitting its most-watched episode since the season premiere (10.2 million), held even with its most recent 2.0 rating in the demo. CBS averaged a 2.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 11.3 million viewers over the course of the night.

The Big Bang competition was also a season first for American Idol. The competition averaged a 3.1 rating among adults 18-49 -- a drop of three-tenths of a point from last Thursday. Newcomer Rake (1.3 adults) suffered a disappointing drop in its second episode, falling four-tenths of a point. Fox took a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 8.3 million viewers.

Community (1.1 adults) and Parks and Recreation (1.2 adults) both matched last week's scores -- the latter sending off series regulars Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe. Saturday Night Live special Sports All-Stars, averaging a 1.8 in the demo, was a vast improvement from NBC comedies Sean Saves the World and Michael J. Fox and even drama Parenthood. The network averaged a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.2 million viewers.

The Taste (1.0 adults) shed a tenth of a point on ABC, with the network averaging a 1.0 in the demo and 3.6 million viewers for the night.

On the CW, The Vampire Diaries (1.2 adults) dropped two-tenths of a point from last week. Reign (0.7 adults) improved a tenth, giving the network a 0.8 rating with adults 18-49 and 2 million viewers.
