TV Ratings: 'Big Brother' Leads Wednesday, 'American Gothic' Opens Small

CBS leads the night, though the new drama disappoints.

Big Brother returned atop the Wednesday heap. Though somewhat down from last summer's bow, CBS' two-hour premiere averaged a dominant 1.9 rating among adults 18-49.

That lead-in did not offer much of a boost to American Gothic. The new summer drama, on the heels of a similarly small BrainDead, opened to just a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.5 million viewers in its first live-plus-same-day showing. Time may paint a better story, but it's not a promising start.

Fox was the only other network to air all new episodes, with MasterChef (1.0 adults) down two-tents of a point and Wayward Pines (0.7 adults) holding with the previous week.

On NBC, Night Shift reaped a 0.9 rating in the key demo.
