CBS' summer series Big Brother returned for its 13th edition, improving on last year's premiere.

The new season of Big Brother (7.7 million total viewers, 2.7 rating in adults 18-49 demographic), dubbed "Double Trouble" sees eight new houseguests teaming up in pairs and competing with three "dynamic duos" from past seasons, ranked as Thursday's highest-rated and most-watched telecast on broadcast.

Along with repeats of The Mentalist, The Big Bang Theory and Rules of Engagement, CBS topped the night in both categories.

ABC's Wipeout (6.6 million, 2.0) won its 8 p.m. time slot, remaining flat compared to the previous week. Dipping 11 percent, Mark Burnett's Expedition Impossible (5.5 million, 1.6) couldn't compete with Big Brother at 9 p.m. Rookie Blue (5.9 million, 1.5), however, improved 7 percent, powering ABC for second place in the demo and viewers.

Fox's So You Think You Can Dance (5.4 million, 1.6) was steady in the demo with the top 14 results show but ticked up 4 percent in viewers.

NBC's Love Bites (2 million, 0.7) wasn't so lucky, tying its lowest-rated telecast of the season.
