Centers on an upper-middle-class black man who struggles to raise his children with a sense of cultural identity despite constant contradictions and obstacles coming from his liberal wife, old-school father and his own assimilated, color-blind kids. Loosely based on the life of showrunner Kenya Barris.

After a week off the air, Black-ish rose two-tenths of a point to a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49 to help ABC tie CBS as the top net in the key demo on Wednesday night.

The Middle (1.8 adults) was down two-tenths, followed by steady showings of The Goldbergs (2.1 adults) and Modern Family (2.9 adults). Nashville was also even (1.3 adults).

Survivor once again reigned as the top broadcast offering, ticking up to a 2.3 rating. The reality series was followed by Criminal Minds (1.9 adults), which hit a series low, and CSI: Cyber (1.5 adults), which was flat.

The Mysteries of Laura (1.0 adults) was steady in its first new episode in three weeks on what was otherwise a quiet night of repeats for NBC.

American Idol (1.5 adults) was flat for Fox. Both Arrow (0.9 adults) and Supernatural (0.7 adults) were steady for The CW.
