TV Ratings: CMA Awards Climb to 3-Year High on ABC
ABC climbed to a Wednesday win with the CMA Awards.
The country music kudos dominated the evening, soaring to a three-year high. The telecast improved in total viewers, adding nearly 2 million from 2016, with 14.3 million viewers. It was also up 10 percent in the key demo, averaging a solid 3.2 rating among adults 18-49.
All that attention on the CMA Awards did not help the rest of the broadcast lineup rebound from last week's dips against the World Series. Fox, airing Empire for the first time since before the World Series, saw the show return to a 1.8 rating. Star earned a 1.2 rating.
On CBS, Survivor (1.6 adults), SEAL Team (0.9 adults) and Criminal Minds (0.9 adults) were steady. NBC saw The Blacklist hold with a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 and the same for Law & Order with a 1.1 rating. Chicago P.D. dropped down to a 0.9 rating.
The CW had originals of Riverdale (0.5 adults) and Dynasty (0.2 adults), the latter just earning a full season order despite its rather awful linear ratings.
