With the NFL season nearing, Fox dominated primetime with its telecast of a preseason football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday.

Fox's broadcast, from 8-11 p.m., was up 45 percent compared to a comparable game last year in the metered-market households. This year's game averaged a 6.1, up from 4.2 for last summer's New England Patriots-Atlanta Falcons game. Football also helped the network top the night in primetime, with Fox averaging a 3.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic.

CBS was a close second with another live eviction on Big Brother (8 million total viewers, 3.0 rating in adults 18-49 demographic), easily the night's top non-sports program. Big Brother is up 20 percent compared to last year. Repeats of The Big Bang Theory (7.3 million, 1.9), Rules of Engagement (6.5 million, 1.9) and The Mentalist (6 million, 1.2) also performed solidly.

ABC's original lineup of Wipeout (6.7 million, 1.9), Expedition Impossible (4.6 million, 1.3) and Rookie Blue (4.6 million, 1.2) placed third on the night.

NBC and the CW aired repeats.
