TV Ratings: Live 'Idol' Boasts Slight Edge Over 'Survivor'
ABC, CBS and Fox enjoyed a three-way tie for demo supremacy on Wednesday night, with barely any part of the trio's lineups seeing much change from last week.
While ABC's Modern Family was easily the night's highest-rated series with a steady 2.5 rating among adults 18-49, the race for No. 2 was tight. American Idol's live telecast on Fox just edged past CBS' Survivor, in both the demo (2.1 rating) and total viewers (8.9 million), compared to the latter's 2.0 rating with adults 18-49 and 8.6 million viewers.
The night's only series to post any impactful growth was CBS' Code Black. The drama rose two-tenths of a point to a 1.2 demo rating with an original lead-in from Criminal Minds (1.8 adults). On Fox, Hell's Kitchen was one of the many steady series on the night. It averaged a 1.3 rating in the key demo.
As for the rest of ABC's lineup, The Middle (1.9 adults), The Goldbergs (1.9 adults), Black-ish (1.9 adults) and American Crime (0.9 adults) all held with last Wednesday.
NBC saw Law & Order: SVU dip two-tenths of a point to a 1.5 rating with adults 18-49 between even episodes of The Mysteries of Laura (1.0 adults) and Chicago P.D. (1.6 adults).
Arrow (1.0 adults) and Supernatural (0.7 adults) were steady on The CW.
