With added competition from the NBA playoffs, several broadcast series fell as the networks headed into sweeps.

Empire once again tied with Survivor as the top-rated series of the night with a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. However, that marked a dip of three-tenths for the hip-hop drama. Elsewhere on Fox, Shots Fired was steady for the network (0.8 adults).

After a nearly month-long break, Modern Family (1.6 adults) returned down three-tenths.

The rest of ABC's Wednesday comedies were even: The Goldbergs (1.4 adults), Speechless (1.2 adults) and Black-ish (1.2 adults). It was a special night for Black-ish, which aired the backdoor pilot for a potential Yara Shahidi-centered spinoff that is in the works at the network.

At 10 p.m., Designated Survivor (0.9 adults) fell two-tenths.

In addition to Survivor, Criminal Minds (1.4 adults) and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (0.9 adults) were also flat for CBS.

For NBC, Blindspot (0.9 adults), Law & Order: SVU (1.0 adults) and Chicago P.D. (1.1 adults) were all steady.

On The CW, Arrow (0.5 adults) and The 100 (0.4 adults) were also even.
