TV Ratings: 'Dancing With the Stars' Hits 3-Year Premiere High
Dancing With the Stars put up its best premiere ratings in three years Monday. The season opener for Monday Night Football, however, didn't fare so well, falling double digits from 2019.
ABC's Dancing With the Stars — featuring a new host in Tyra Banks and a cast that includes rapper Nelly, Tiger King's Carole Baskin and Cheer coach Monica Aldama — scored a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 in Monday's final ratings, its best premiere number since fall 2017 and the highest for any episode of the show since the fall 2017 cycle's next-to-last installment. It also drew 8.12 million total viewers Monday, the most on broadcast TV in primetime.
Following the DWTS premiere, comedy special VOMO: Vote or Miss Out earned a modest 0.4 in adults 18-49 and 2.54 million viewers.
ESPN's Monday Night Football doubleheader took a sizable loss compared to a year ago. The early game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants averaged 10.76 million viewers, while the Tennessee Titans' win over the Denver Broncos in the late game managed just 7.7 million. The two contests were down about 22 percent from a year ago. The NFL's opening weekend as a whole drew about 7.5 percent fewer viewers than in 2019. The two games were Monday's top programs among adults 18-49 by a wide margin, posting ratings of 3.6 and 2.9.
Elsewhere in primetime Monday, American Ninja Warrior slipped a little in its second week on NBC, coming in at 0.5 in the 18-49 demo and 3.19 million viewers. Love Island (0.4 in 18-49, 1.66 million viewers) ticked up slightly for CBS.
After football, Fox News' Tucker Carlson Tonight (4.63 million viewers) was the most watched show on cable.
