Championship Sunday's evening game may have taken a hit from the comparable outing last year, but the afternoon game proved just as strong as ever.

The NFC Championship Game, airing in the early window on Fox, was off just a million from last year's game on CBS with an average 49.8 million viewers. That marks the second-most-watched telecast across TV since the Super Bowl. Though down a shade from last year, it was up 13 percent from the last time Fox hosted the early window NFC face-off.

Helping the game was an improbable fourth-quarter comeback and overtime victory for the Seattle Seahawks over the Green Bay Packers.

Barring any dramatic lifts for CBS' early returns for the AFC game, in which the New England Patriots blew the Indianapolis Colts out of the water, this will be the first time in almost a decade that an afternoon conference championship has outperformed the primetime game.

The Seahawks and the Patriots will face off at the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.
