'Grey's Anatomy'

The season premiere of Grey's Anatomy drew a somewhat smaller audience than last season's debut, but the ABC drama still posted Thursday's best 18-49 rating outside of Fox's Thursday Night Football. The latter led the night across the board, although it was down from both last week and the comparable week a year ago.

The two-hour Grey's Anatomy premiere scored a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.93 million viewers, vs. 1.5 and 6.51 million for its (one-hour) 2019 debut. Station 19 led off ABC's night with a 1.2 in the key ad demographic and 6.59 million viewers, even in the demo with last season's premiere (in January) and off slightly in total viewers (vs. 7.02 million). Grey's was in line with its same-day average for 2019-20 in adults 18-49.

Thursday Night Football drew 12.16 million viewers across Fox and the NFL Network, by far the most of the night. Its 3.5 rating in adults 18-49 also more than doubled anything else on Nielsen-measured TV. Still, it was off by about a million viewers compared to last week.

CBS' Young Sheldon improved a bit with its second episode of the season, earning a 0.8 in the demo and 7.4 million viewers. Mom (0.6, 5.21 million) also grew its total audience, while B Positive (0.5, 4.9 million) dipped a little from its premiere. The Unicorn premiered to a 0.4 in adults 18-49 and 4.08 million viewers.

Law & Order: SVU opened its 22nd season on NBC with a 0.6 in the demo and 3.02 million viewers, down a bit from 0.7 and 3.84 million for its 2019 premiere. Superstore was steady at 0.5 and 2.35 million. The next to last episode of The CW's Supernatural drew just over 1 million viewers and a 0.3 in the demo.

On cable Thursday, Tucker Carlson Tonight was the most watched show with 4.31 million viewers, though that was down from recent performances on Fox News. ESPN's coverage of the first round of the Masters golf tournament — which is taking place seven months later than usual — led cable in adults 18-49 with a 0.5 rating.
