TV Ratings: 'This Is Us' Tops Broadcast, CNN Leads Cable Tuesday

This is Us

NBC's This Is Us led the broadcast networks in primetime Tuesday, while CNN drew the night's biggest audience on cable.

This Is Us rebounded a bit from last week's same-day series low in total viewers (5.2 million), growing to 5.45 million Tuesday. Its 0.99 rating among adults 18-49 was essentially even with last week's 1.01. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (2.66 million viewers, 0.46 in 18-49) declined a little from its premiere a week ago, and Nurses (2.6 million, 0.38) improved a little.

The season premiere of The Resident on Fox drew a 0.65 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.92 million viewers, fairly close to its 2019-20 averages of 0.73 and 4.07 million. Prodigal Son (0.5, 2.34 million), however, opened well below its year-ago numbers.

ABC and CBS aired reruns in primetime, while The CW got modest ratings from the season debut of Two Sentence Horror Stories (0.11 in 18-49, 482,000 viewers) and the U.S. premiere of Canadian drama Trickster (0.09, 441,000).

CNN's primetime lineup led cable in total viewers (3.92 million), adults 18-49 (0.63) and the key news demo of adults 25-54 (0.97). MSNBC was a close second in viewers with 3.81 million and had the No. 1 individual program in The Rachel Maddow Show (4.68 million). Fox News averaged 2.95 million viewers.

Among non-news shows, History's The Curse of Oak Island led primetime on cable in both viewers (2.94 million) and adults 18-49 (0.56 rating).
