'Twilight's' Rachelle Lefevre Lands Female Lead in CBS' 'Under the Dome'

The "Twilight" actress, 33, last seen on CBS' canceled "A Gifted Man" drama, books key supporting roles in Sony's Channing Tatum thriller "White House Down" and Millennium's Jason Statham actioner "Homefront."

CBS' Under the Dome has found its leading lady.

Twilight's Rachelle Lefevre has been tapped to join the network's sci-fi drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Based on the book by Stephen King, the summer series follows residents in the community of Chester's Mill as they deal with the post-apocalyptic conditions that ensue when a strange dome mysteriously encapsulates the town.

Lefevre will play Julia, an investigative reporter who just moved from Chicago to Chester's Mill with her husband, a doctor at the town's medical center. She's the editor of the town's local paper and is intrigued after learning of multiple deliveries of propane gas to a nearby warehouse. She's baffled by the appearance of the strange dome but more concerned with the whereabouts of her mysteriously missing husband.

CBS Television Studios will produce the drama, which was picked up straight to series, in association with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television. Neal Baer (A Gifted Man, Law & Order: SVU), King, Justin FalveyDarryl FrankStacey Snider and comic scribe Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last ManLost) -- who penned the Under the Dome television adaptation -- will serve as executive producers.

Director Niels Arden Oplev (Unforgettable, Sweden's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) will helm the first episode of the drama, which has also signed on Lost's Jack Bender as an exec producer.

Lefevre joins a cast that also includes Breaking Bad's Dean Norris, Pan Am's Mike VogelTrue Blood's Aisha HindsSecret Circle's Britt RobertsonCSI: NY'Natalie MartinezJolene PurdyNicholas StrongAlex Koch and Colin Ford.

For Lefevre, the casting brings her back to CBS, where she starred on the network's short-lived A Gifted Man. Repped by WME, Pearl Hanan Management and Stone Meyer, her credits also include ABC's Off the Map and Swingtown.

Under the Dome premieres June 24 on CBS.
