Kyle MacLachlan may be returning to Twin Peaks.

The original star of David Lynch and Mark Frost's 1990s serial mystery drama, which Showtime is reviving as a nine-episode limited series for 2016, alluded to a possible reprisal of his role as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper on Twitter following Monday's news.

The Twin Peaks revival is not being billed as a reboot or a remake, but a continuation of where the story left off in June 1991, allowing for the possibility of original castmembers such as MacLachlan, Sherilynn Fenn and Michael Ontkean, to potentially return. Lynch and Frost, who co-created the series, will co-write all nine episodes with Lynch directing.

Though no casting announcements were made, co-creator Frost hinted to THR on Monday that news will come shortly: "I'm hopeful that we'll have news on it in the coming weeks."

Showtime declined to comment.
