On UnREAL, the goal is to find Everlasting love, but if the cast of the Lifetime drama had any say, contestants would be bolting before they even met the charming suitor.
Ahead of the season two premiere, The Hollywood Reporter asked the UnREAL team to give advice for both fictional Everlasting and real Bachelorette contestants. And the most popular tip? To stay far, far away.
“Don’t do it. Go home. Run!” co-creator Sarah Gertrude Shapiro said with a laugh. “Strategy. I would say keep your friends close, enemies closer and eyes on the prize. Trust no one.”
Shiri Appleby, who plays showrunner Rachel, echoed Shapiro’s sentiments. “First, I would say, don't go on the show. Second, be incredibly protective of yourself and don't trust anyone.”
Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, who plays sly producer Jay, dug a little deeper. “Know who you are and never compromise your integrity. There’s going to be temptation galore to try to fit yourself into a box to please other people,” he explained. “The edit is going to be what the edit is. You really have no control over that, but at the end of the day, if you show up and shine brightly and authentically and stay true to who you are — no matter what the finished product will be — you’ll be able to look at yourself in the mirror at the end of the day.”
On the flip side, B.J. Britt — aka new suitor Darius — had advice for the person looking for love. “Once you're in it, live every moment to the fullest. Look for love. Find it,” he said. “Hopefully, I find it at the end of the season, because I don't even know.”
UnREAL season two premieres on Monday, June 6 at 10 p.m. on Lifetime. Stay tuned to THR's The Live Feed for more coverage.
